Jackson Community Ambulance Uses HealthEMS Technology to Enhance Services

Ever feel like technology is taking over the world? Technology has and will continue to be interwoven into our everyday lives. The challenge is to determine how well technology helps to make the things we do everyday a bit easier.

That’s exactly what HealthEMS is doing for Jackson Community Ambulance, making routine tasks easier.

According to John Vary, quality improvement manager for Jackson Community Ambulance (JCA), “HealthEMS is a web-based, remote-hosted software that consistently measures our performance by improving our data collection.” The result is better patient care and a more efficient reporting system. “It’s a win-win for everyone.”

HealthEMS enables JCA medics in the field to quickly collect the standardized information needed to support clinical decision and patient billing. Through a secured wireless connection, the data collected by the medics can be transmitted to JCA and to the Emergency Room in a matter of seconds.

JCA started using HealthEMS in July of 2008 and is pleased with the performance of the technology. “Overall, we are finding our medics are more efficient in reporting patient information to hospital personnel,” stated Vary. “HealthEMS is saving time when time is critical for patient care.”

The data entered into HealthEMS by JCA medics in the field also gives Vary the information he needs to identify areas for improvement. By reviewing the data, Vary can initiate appropriate training opportunities for JCA medics and staff. In addition, Vary uses the data to identify outstanding clinical performance by JCA medics as well as how closely they are following treatment protocols.

Since launching HealthEMS program at JCA the software has demonstrated time and again that this technology is truly making routine tasks easier for the emergency medical provider. “We know HealthEMS is a great system,” stated Vary. “This year, JCA plans to expand its use in ambulances throughout our system.”
