Jackson Community Ambulance honored Napoleon Township police officer Lydell
Tanner and Napoleon resident Jim Mayes at their Emergency Medical Services
Recognition Awards Dinner on May 17 in Ann Arbor.
In
February, Tanner and Mayes rescued a frightened woman from the second story
deck where she went to escape the fire that was destroying her home. Cold
temperatures, snow and ice hindered the efforts of Tanner and Mayes as they
carried the woman down a flight of snow covered stairs. These local heroes
went above and beyond in a tough rescue situation.
Also at the awards dinner, a Heart Safe Organization Award was presented to
Siena Heights University of Adrian. The university was recognized for their
cardiac emergency response program, making automated external defibrillators
available on campus, training personnel in CPR and AED use, and having a
cardiac emergency response plan in place that is practiced regularly.
Other highlights included JCA paramedic and Jackson resident Emily Bergquist
receiving a Professional Achievement Award for outstanding work performance.
Emily also took 3rd place in the written Advanced Life
Support competition at this year’s statewide EMS Expo in April.
JCA paramedic and Jackson resident Nate Baryo also received a
Professional Achievement Award
and was named JCA’s 2011 Star of Life, a recognition for being an
exemplary employee.
These award recipients were joined by JCA employees, representatives from
Siena Heights and other community members who also received awards. The
awards dinner is held annually during National Emergency Medical Services
Week, which honors EMS providers who deliver
lifesaving emergency care nationwide 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
